I will not state my name but i have been on this team for several years. He does have knowledge about the sport and has been around for a long time. However, he has terrible communication skills and does not like teaching people about the sport. When people have questions or want to know the purpose of certain sets or techniques he simply says "Do it because I said so". If someone has a bad day or is tired then he does nothing to support them. Instead of supporting us he threatens to take our scholarships or take us off the team. This may work in the short term and produce a better practice for the day or maybe for a couple weeks but eventually the swimmers will forget that they joined the team to get better and feel that they are only swimming to help make the coach look better. He also gets angry very easily and will scream at you if something is not to his satisfaction. I have heard that during his first year here, the whole team signed a petition to get him fired because of his terrible communication skills. There have been numerous people who come to this program motivated but then leave because of his terrible attitude. In the off-season he does not care about us and I often felt that he only works as a coach because of the paycheck and not because he has a passion for swimming. He is very organized and that is a plus but he would rather have people do one workout instead of focusing on individual needs such as distance, sprint, mid distance, fly, back, etc. He has his own plan for the year but always repeats the same sets and never does anything new. This can make it difficult and boring to train under him. If you dont mind mindlessly doing everything a coach says and repeating the same sets over and over then this coach is for you. Another bad thing about him is that he makes a lot of empty promises such as working on starts or dives or going to certain meets but never commits to anything he promises. Then when swimmers ask when we will do the things he promised he gets mad and avoids the subject. He is also way to involved in peoples personal lives. He is way to concerned about keeping his job because he almost got fired his first year here. This leads him to be very anal and up tight about everything. When people quit the team or want to transfer he treats the very badly and has even banned people from swimming at the pool. He has also tried to withhold release forms and not let people transfer. He then even went so far as to lying to coaches that the swimmers are lazy and have a bad attitude just because they want to leave and go elsewhere. If you come here, you will be stuck and if you try to leave then he will talk badly to every coach you contact and do everything in his power to ruin your future swimming career. I would not recommend swimming for this guy.
